The Parlotones
Simply put, The Parlotones are potentially South Africa’s biggest selling pop/rock act with over 800 000 album sales worldwide. The band have reached double platinum, platinum and gold record status.
Formed in 1998, the band has become known to constantly push the envelope in terms of their artistry and creativity.
Their chart-topping single, “Push Me To The Floor” has received over a million views on YouTube and won a MK award for Best Music Video in 2010. The track also won a SAMA for Best Music Video and the album “Stardust Galaxies” won Best Rock Album at the awards.
Their 2009/2010 Stardust Galaxies tour has been their biggest to date and culminated in sell-out headline arena shows at the 20 000-capacity Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg, and the Grand West Arena in Cape Town.
Bed on Bricks
Bed on Bricks is a South African original. The funk hop/Afro-rock outfit was formed back in 2003 by a talented group of musicians who by then had already made their mark in the local music scene: vocalist Mike Hardy (Sons of Trout), guitarist Dave van der Linden (Shooting Corrine), Tim Rankin (Dorp) and Schalk van der Merwe (Delta Blue).
Five critically acclaimed albums followed between 2003 and 2014, but it is as live act that the ‘Bricks’ earned their formidable reputation, with many calling them the best live act in South Africa. They have dominated the main stages of Oppikoppi, Splashy Fen, Rocking the Daisies and many more premier music festivals, and opened for international bands Bastille and Crash Test Dummies on their recent SA tours. They are currently working on a new album.
